VOLUNTEERING AT CIBOLO NATURE CENTER
We simply would not be here if it weren't for the good-hearted, hard-working, nature-loving people that make up our volunteer force at the Cibolo Nature Center! We have hundreds of people just like you volunteering in hundreds of way.
There are individuals, couples, families, scout groups, service clubs, people from 3 – 103, indoor types, outdoorsy types, self-starters and followers too! We have those who know how, and those who want to learn. We love our volunteers, no matter who they are or what they can do!
Volunteering falls into several categories: Specialties Teams help with the research, education and conservation goals of the Nature Center. Keepers and Trails Teams serve physically, keeping the Nature Center pristine. Administrative and Organizational Teams help with the loads of administrative responsibilities related to running a non-profit organization. And, if you are the hospitable type, we have Events and Hospitality Teams who help with our public relations and fundraising. Read about the opportunities below and descriptions that follow. Then, click on our calendar. You may find yourself here as one of our volunteers!

VISITORS CENTER/GIFT SHOP HOSTS
It's the hub of activity and the primary greeting center for all of our visitors. Put your friendly nature to work providing visitors with a "lay of the land" as you offer trail maps, directions to the restrooms and picnic areas, and membership information. Our hosts also handle purchases from our small gift shop.
OFFICE SUPPORT AT CNC
The CNC main office is a busy place with all the tasks required to keep the Nature Center running. There are events, fundraising, camp and program registrations; lots happening. If you prefer the office over the outdoors, we use reliable help! Computer skills are needed, but nothing fancy. But, if you are a whiz, we would love to talk to you!
SPECIAL EVENTS
Several large special events require "all hands on deck" for organizing, mailing and on-site assistance. Others are minimal effort and maximum enjoyment. Here's a few examples:
The Mostly Native Plant Sale is held the first Saturday in April. Approximately 150 volunteers join us in this friend-raising event at Kendall County Fairgrounds.
Our annual Celebrate the Cibolo Gala is held under the stars and is our largest event. Held in October, volunteers help throw our party and foster community support by collecting auction and raffle items. Truly a special way to help the Cibolo.
Songs & Stories, our summer outdoor concert series, takes place under the stars in our grove of magnificent oak trees every other week from April through September. This is a great volunteer opportunity. Adults collect concert fees, host in the Visitors Center during intermission, and help set up and tear down the event. Easy duty and it all happens on a single Saturday night.
We participate in many of Boerne's parades and community events. We always need volunteers to represent us well at these fun-filled events or to help decorate our flatbed trailer.
SECOND SATURDAY WORKDAYS
Every month this group of volunteers handles a "to do" list for building and grounds maintenance. Projects vary from month to month. They may include some basic carpentry, electrical, painting, or gardening. Recently, the historic Herff Farm has been the focus of several Saturday projects.
MAIL TEAM
Join this lively group of volunteers as they handle the periodic CNC mass mailings, like our newsletters and special events invitations.
OUTDOOR CLASSROOM GUIDES
Work with visiting school children and lead them in nature activities. Create your own schedule. No experience is necessary and we provide on-site field training. Discover the joys of nature and inspire others as you experience nature through the eyes of a child!
TRAIL GUIDES
Take groups for a guided tour of our trails. Training is provided and we always need people who have flexible schedules to accommodate the groups requesting the tours.
RESEARCH/CITIZEN SCIENTISTS
The semi-annual Wildlife Field Research events are conducted in May and October. Volunteers work under the guidance of expert researchers and team leaders. They learn practical survey techniques. Both adults and young people participate. This is an excellent learning and volunteer experience for home-school families. Other students may also participate for credit in both community service and science. (Make arrangements with your school.)
THE KEEPERS TEAMS
Volunteers care for specific areas at the CNC. Projects are coordinated through education and research departments. Examples include:
• Gardens
• Trails
• Hummingbirds
• Pond
• Aquariums
• Trees
• Library
• Exhibits/Displays
• Wild Bird Feeders
