Gardening 101: Invertebrates & Disease Management

Herff Farm | 2:00pm-4:00pm

Farmer's Market, Learn

Join Keith Amelung of Have Spade Will Travel this Saturday and every 3rd Saturday after the Farmer’s Market at Herff Farm for an introduction to the “basics” of veggie gardening in the Texas Hill Country. We will cover the “how to get started” in a quick 1-hour presentation followed by a Q&A and a seasonal hands-on project.

Following up on the previous discussion of pollinators — let’s just say not all insects are welcome in the garden. Summertime can be quite stressful on our garden plants, and sometimes the unwanted invertebrates can get the upper hand. They spread diseases and cause additional strains on our already struggling plants. We will discuss the natural solutions to some of the most common of pest problems. Interactive: Together we will tour the Garden Beds at the Herff Farm looking for our foe…and dispatching that wascally wabbit wherever found. Each attendee will receive Diatomaceous Earth for use in your home gardens.

September 18 – Preparing for the Fall
October 26 – Winterize Your Garden
