Join Keith Amelung of Have Spade Will Travel this Saturday and every 3rd Saturday after the Farmer’s Market at Herff Farm for an introduction to the “basics” of veggie gardening in the Texas Hill Country. We will cover the “how to get started” in a quick 1-hour presentation followed by a Q&A and a seasonal hands-on project.
Our fall gardens can be our best! Not only do we get a second chance at some of the spring crops like beans and squash, but we get in to the cruciferous crops like cabbage, broccoli, kale, etc. Root crops like carrots, beets and turnips…we start thinking ahead to our leaf crops like lettuce, mustards and spinach. And then there are the cool season herbs like arugula and cilantro — LOTS of stuff coming up for cooler weather. Interactive: Each attendee will pot up a few broccoli starts to take home, plus a handful of seeds for assorted root crops. Together we will set out a few transplants and sow a few seeds in the Garden Beds at the Herff Farm.
