Composting Workshop: Turning Scraps into Soil

Herff Farm | 10:30am-12:00pm

Learn, Experiences

Learn all about composting in this free, hands-on workshop!

Discover how easy and rewarding composting can be in this free, hands-on workshop held in the Teaching Garden during the Farmers Market. Participants will learn the fundamentals of composting and see real-time demonstrations of how food scraps, garden waste, and everyday materials can be transformed into rich, healthy soil.

We’ll explore different composting methods, discuss what to compost (and what not to), and break down the balance of “greens” and “browns” needed for success. You’ll leave with practical tips you can use at home—whether you’re composting in a backyard, raised bed, or small urban space.

Perfect for beginners and curious gardeners alike, this workshop offers a tangible way to reduce waste, enrich your garden, and support healthier soil from the ground up.

Free and open to the public. All experience levels welcome.

Instructors: Shyann Martinez and Sarah Berringer

Location: Teaching Garden at Herff Farm

Date: Saturday, April 25, from 10:30-12:00pm
