Celebrating Carolyn Chipman Evans: An Ongoing Legacy of Conservation

by Brian Davenport, Director of Communications

Nestled within the serene embrace of nature in Boerne, Texas, stands The Cibolo Center for Conservation—a testament to the vision, dedication, and tireless efforts of its founding CEO, Carolyn Chipman Evans. As Carolyn transitions from her role at the helm of our organization, it’s not just a moment to bid farewell to one chapter but to celebrate the profound impact she has had on our community and beyond.

For 36 years, Carolyn has been the driving force behind The Cibolo, guided by the belief that a small group of committed citizens can indeed change the world, as espoused by Margaret Mead. Under her leadership, The Cibolo has transformed into a model nature center, a sanctuary for both wildlife and humanity alike. From its humble beginnings on 75 acres of leased land, The Cibolo has been able, with partners, to protect over 850 adjacent acres known as The Cibolo Conservation Corridor, replenishing aquifers with up to six million gallons of water per day.

Beyond land conservation, Carolyn’s influence has extended through innovative educational programs, inspiring tens of thousands of children to forge lasting connections with nature. The Cibolo’s impact has even reached international shores, serving as a blueprint for nature centers worldwide.

Yet Carolyn’s greatest legacy lies in her unwavering commitment to fostering love and belonging within The Cibolo community. From the tranquil Herff Farm to the bustling Nest Nature School, her vision has created spaces where all are welcome, nurturing the bond between humanity and the natural world.

As Carolyn passes the torch to a new CEO, her journey continues. Transitioning into a new role focused on protecting additional land and growing the organization’s endowment, she embarks on a new chapter—one fueled by the same passion, dedication, and belief in the power of conservation.

So, as we bid farewell to Carolyn’s tenure as CEO, let us celebrate the dawn of a new era. Let us honor her legacy by continuing the vital work of conservation, inspiring future generations to cherish and protect our planet. Thank you, Carolyn, for your vision, leadership, and unwavering commitment to a better world. The Cibolo will forever bear the imprint of your extraordinary journey.
